Program Overview
Since its creation in 1976, the Diploma in Tourism Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA has carried out a phase of continuous change and improvement to ensure course content, assessment methods and graduates are always relevant in the tourism industry.
Employment from the tourism sector in 2019 shows that a total of 3.6 million individuals are involved in the employment sector in the field of tourism. This accounts for 23.6% of the total employment sector in Malaysia, a consistent increase of 0.6% on average over 5 years.
COVID-19 has had a huge impact on the tourism sector around the world. However, the government’s steps in the convergence of the transformation strategy of Improving Human Capital Skills through the National Tourism Policy 2020 – 2030 with four empowerment strategies with five tactics directly related to tourism education have been listed with the aim of developing a culture of service through human capital and ensuring an attractive career path.
Among the tactics listed are increasing collaboration between the public, private sector and academia in human capital development, expanding the use of digital technology in tourism and hospitality programs and encouraging career development in tourism starups.
